Administrative Procedures for Emergency Room Admissions

Arroyos psychologists can co-admit our patients to the Huntington Hospital Emergency Room when clinically indicated. Patients must meet criteria for an emergency hospital evaluation for either psychiatric or medical reasons. Patients must be evaluated by one of our psychologist in person, or in some cases via telephone, prior to admission.

Some of our psychologists are credentialed by Huntington Hospital to write 5150 (involuntary) holds on patients who meet criteria for hospital admission but who are unwilling or unable to voluntarily admit to the hospital.  Patients must be evaluated by the psychologist in person in order for a 5150 hold to be written. In order to qualify for a 5150 hold, the patient must be a danger to self, danger to other, or unable to provide for food, clothing, and shelter and refuse voluntary hospital admission.
