Who We Treat

Medical Complications of Psychological Problems

While not a separate section of mental disorders, medical problems can cause, result from, or coexist with psychological and psychiatric problems. Endocrine and metabolic disorders can result in changes in mood, anger, anxiety, and impulsivity. Medical problems may arise as a result of mental disorders such as a Substance Use Disorder, Bulimia, or Bipolar Disorder. Medical conditions can coexist and affect psychological or psychiatric problems, such as the presence of coronary heart disease in depression, irritable bowel syndrome in the presence of an Anxiety Disorder, or diabetes in the presence of Schizoaffective Disorder.
