Psychoanalytic Therapy is a less intense form of psychodynamic psychotherapy that is similar to psychoanalysis, which can be practiced by mental health professionals who receive training in this form of therapy but who have not completed psychoanalytic training and become psychoanalysts. Psychoanalytic Therapy, also referred to as Psychodynamic Therapy, relies on similar theoretical and technical principles as psychoanalysis. Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy is used to treat a wide variety of psychological and psychiatric disorders. The primary difference between Psychoanalytic Therapy and Psychoanalysis has to do with the extent of training of the therapist and the intensity of the treatment.
