Q: What are “Transitional Living Services” and when are they necessary or beneficial?

A: Transitional Living Services refers to a structured secure sober environment in which the patient resides with a live-in Resident Manager, food and chef services, medication monitoring, routine drug and alcohol testing, and some transportation services to selected clinical and 12 Step settings.

Transitional Living Residences are unlicensed residences where patients live while receiving clinical services elsewhere. Transitional living residences are ideal for patients who have primary psychiatric or psychological diagnoses. Some patients may also have problems with chemical dependency problems in addition to their primary psychiatric diagnosis.

We recommend transitional living services for patients who have recently discharged from a hospital or residential treatment facility, or who are unable to live independently due to a psychiatric disorder and can benefit from the additional structure and supervision that will allow them to eventually transition to a manageable and independent lifestyle.

Q: What structured residences do you provide and where are they located?

A: We currently operate The Arroyos Park Vista, a luxurious transitional home located in a quiet residential neighborhood in beautiful Pasadena, California. The house is in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, with the Angeles National Forest at our back yard. We have a spectacular view of the San Gabriel Valley, downtown Los Angeles, and even the ocean and Catalina Island on a clear day.

The Arroyos Park Vista easily accommodates six residents in a spacious, comfortable, co-educational community. The house includes five bedrooms and four bathrooms. An expansive great room with dining, sectional sofa, television, has a view of the deck and pool, and there are two other dens with separate television viewing and video gaming options. An enormous deck includes a swimming pool with spa, a cook center, lounge chairs, and comfortable seating area. We have a full-sized tennis court which doubles as a basketball court. There is a full-service kitchen, workout area, and washer and dryer on site. Smoking is only allowed on the premises within a designated, comfortable covered outdoor sitting area.

The house is minutes away from restaurants, shopping, services, and entertainment. The city of Pasadena has a rich cultural heritage, and is internationally known for its natural beauty, world class museums and gardens, incredible sporting and athletic events, vibrant artistic, musical, educational, architectural, and medical communities, and pleasant shopping opportunities in locations such as Old Town Pasadena. Residents can volunteer, work, or attend college at Pasadena Community College or nearby universities while residing at The Arroyos Park Vista.

Public transportation is available via the Gold Line, a light rail system that provides access to Los Angeles within twenty minutes. The freeway system is ten minutes from the house and also provides access to the entire Los Angeles basin.

Q: How do I arrange for myself or loved one to check into a residence and how long do residents typically stay?

A: To arrange admission to a residence, call to consult with The Arroyos to determine if a residency is right for you or your loved one. If you are already receiving therapy from an outside therapist or organization, you may also have your therapist or caregiver contact The Arroyos for a consultation. We can advise you or your therapist as to the best options, availability and pricing.

Length of stay depends on the type and severity of a resident's condition as well as goals set by the family, resident, and treatment team. Your Arroyos team can usually estimate and recommend the amount of time your residential care will require. If you're new to The Arroyos, we can interview and assess you or your loved one's condition to determine what treatment and level of care is indicated prior to any commitment.
